It is the dawn of a new year. What an ideal time to take up

a new hobby or dust of an old one! Let’s start with painting or photography.

The Gallery at 208 E. Beale in Kingman, Arizona will be hosting the First Friday event on January 5th commencing at 3:00 P.M.

Start with a stop at Tumbleweeds and Tarantulas for some new art supplies, and a bit of encouragement to take up the pallet. As Bullhead City is centrally located in a vast Technicolor wonderland, inspiration for creating a landscape masterpiece is awaiting discovery at most every turn. If added inspiration is needed, may I suggest the Kingman Center for the Arts at 208 E. Beale Street in Kingman, Arizona.

On January 5, the gallery will be hosting a showing entitled “Animals.” This is part of the First Friday events. At 7:00 in the evening, there will be live musical entertainment. The arts center also hosts an array of classes; watercolor classes on the second and fourth Monday of each month from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., and figure drawing on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M.

Mild winter temperatures are an ideal time for getting the garden ready for spring, and for adding a bit of color with windsocks and wind spinners. The University of Arizona Mohave County Cooperative Extension Office is offering a Master Gardener Urban Home Horticulture Course in Bullhead City that provides research-based horticulture information. The 13-week course that runs from January 18 to April 19 will cover an array of topics including soils, basic botany, irrigation and landscape design, composting, plant propagation, basic ecology, vegetables, stake and prune trees/shrubs, fruit trees, native plants, entomology, pest management, and plant diseases. The registration deadline is January 12, and the schedule as well registration forms are available on their website.

If kites are your way of unwinding, the Family Kite Festival is scheduled for Sunday, January 14. The event takes places at scenic Estrella Mountain Regional Park, 14805 W Vineyard Ave, in Good Year, Arizona. Enhancing the event will be vendors selling unique international foods including traditional Pakistani dishes. For more information contact Gautam Shah at (602) 750-5122. The website provides additional information.

It is the dawn of a new year. Add some color to 2018 with kites, windsocks, or some landscape artistry.
